Traffic Signal Cabinet Assembly Technician

Position Summary

The Traffic Signal Cabinet Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly, wiring, testing, and quality assurance of traffic signal cabinets and related Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment. This role supports Gades Sales Company, Inc.’s commitment to delivering high-quality traffic control solutions to public agencies, contractors, and partners throughout Kansas and surrounding states.

This position is based in the Wichita, Kansas area and requires adherence to company standards, applicable state and federal regulations, and industry best practices.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
Location: Wichita, Kansas (Commuting Area)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical & Assembly Functions

  • Assemble traffic signal cabinets and components, including BIUs, load switches, flasher units, power distribution assemblies, and wiring harnesses
  • Interpret and execute shop drawings, wiring diagrams, and traffic-related construction plans
  • Perform wiring, labeling, and installation in accordance with specifications and applicable standards
  • Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and quality control inspections prior to shipment
  • Ensure all assemblies meet customer specifications and applicable regulatory requirements

Documentation & Quality Control

  • Maintain accurate records of assembly, testing, and quality inspections
  • Verify bill of materials (BOM) against completed assemblies
  • Identify discrepancies and communicate issues to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Support process improvements related to efficiency, quality, and safety

Training & Collaboration

  • Provide on-the-job training to employees and assist in customer training when required
  • Collaborate with operations, sales, and field service teams to meet delivery timelines

Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and company safety policies
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment
  • Report safety concerns or incidents in accordance with company procedures

Travel & Professional Development

  • Participate in periodic travel for manufacturer training, certifications, or project support as needed
  • Maintain awareness of evolving traffic and ITS technologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical training in electrical systems, electronics, or related field preferred
  • Prior experience in electrical assembly, panel building, or traffic signal systems preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and construction plans
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems (low and line voltage)

  • Strong attention to detail and quality control
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with tools and equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot wiring and assembly issues
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment

  • Indoor shop and warehouse environment located in the Wichita, Kansas area
  • May include occasional exposure to field conditions
  • Overtime may be required based on operational needs

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Manual dexterity for detailed assembly and wiring work

Additional Requirements

  • Must reside within a 50-mile commuting distance of the Wichita, Kansas facility
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for occasional travel
